Nokia is cooking up more stuff, will spill the beans May 29

Nokia event

  • Nokia teased its May 29 event in Moscow, where the company will reveal more of what it has been working on.
  • Nokia might announce refreshes to its lower-end smartphones or wider availability of existing devices.

For a brand that was this close to death in 2016, Nokia has done pretty well for itself. Not only did HMD Global save it back in 2016, but it brought out faith in a storied brand that has steadily churned out well-reviewed and popular handsets.

Nokia looks to continue that reinvigoration May 29, when the company will hold an event in Moscow.

The company announced the event through Twitter, while HMD Global chief product officer Juho Sarvikas added that there is "some new stuff to share" during the event. Sarvikas was tight-lipped about what that "stuff" could be, but it's safe to assume that new smartphones will be on the agenda.

Nokia will hold the event at 7:40 p.m. local time, or 12:40 p.m. ET and 9:40 a.m. PT.

If the company will indeed announce some smartphones, we could see refreshes of previous lower-end releases. The Nokia 6, 7, and 8 all saw refreshes, so it makes sense for the Nokia 2, 3, and 5 to be next in line.

We could also see wider availability of the recently-announced Nokia X6. Sarvikas took to Twitter after the phone's announcement to gauge interest in worldwide availability, with an overwhelming majority wanting the X6 outside of China.

After the poll was closed, Sarvikas cheekily responded with a GIF that gave no indication whether the X6 would launch in other markets.

Whatever Nokia announces May 29, we will be sure to cover it and provide as much information as possible.
