Huawei Introduces New Smartphone Protection Plans In India

Chinese smartphone brand Huawei has announced a number of protection plans for its Android devices sold in India. Honor-branded phones will also be covered under the new plans announced by the parent company, Huawei. Under these plans, the company intends to cover most kinds of accidental and liquid damages that can possibly happen to a smartphone, giving its customers an all-round protection. The said plans start at Rs. 1,249 ($18), with the ones for higher-end smartphones probably costing a little more, though Huawei hasn't detailed all the plans yet. These plans from Huawei will cover popular Android devices from the company including Honor 7X, Honor V10, Honor 8 Pro, and the more recently announced Huawei P20 Pro and P20 Lite.

To facilitate this service on a pan-India basis, the company has partnered with OneAssist, a local provider for such after-sales services. Huawei is offering a range of services with these plans, which includes a 24×7 assistance on call, cashless claim, and a free service to pick up and drop smartphones at customers' premises anywhere in India. The plan will automatically be activated within 15 days of purchasing it and will remain valid until a year. The Chinese company currently has a network of 21 exclusive service centers and more than 250 authorized service centers across the South Asian country. It is reportedly planning to expand its presence in the country by providing additional services to its customers along with a few more contact centers for availing after-sales services.

Huawei is following the footsteps of Xiaomi and OnePlus that too provide similar damage protection and extended warranty plans to their customers. Both the brands offer a similar set of features with their plans as the ones announced by Huawei earlier today. In a highly competitive market like India, such added services help brands differentiate their product offering in a space crowded by hundreds of vendors. This announcement from Huawei comes on the heels of the P20 series' launch that marked its re-entry into the country after being absent for several months. Though, Huawei continued selling Android smartphones in India under its sub-brand, Honor, catering to the mid-range and upper mid-range segment with products like Honor 7X and Honor 10.
