5 Android apps you shouldn’t miss this week! – Android Apps Weekly

This is the featured image for the 245th Android Apps Weekly
Welcome to the 245th edition on Android Apps Weekly! Here are the big headlines and releases from the last week:

  • Tons of places updated their terms of service in preparation of Europe's new GDPR. Tinder decided to add some other stuff to their ToS update. You can no longer sue or file a class action lawsuit against Tinder if you accept their new ToS. It's also retroactive and that may be problematic. You can opt-out of the retroactive part. However, you only have 30 days to do so and it's not a simple process inside of the app. Click the link to learn more.
  • A new YouTube series highlights accomplishments from prominent members of the mobile gaming community. This includes voice actors/actresses, game designers, and other prominent members of the mobile gaming community. There are three episodes out now with more coming later. They feature Ashly Burch, Bennet Foddy, and Vassiliki Khonsari. It's a good watch and the videos aren't long.
  • YouTube Music is officially rolling out. The release started a few days ago. However, it's a very slow roll out. Many people haven't seen it yet and many are on mailing lists for its official launch. This is reminiscent to Google's roll out of Google Play Music as well as Google+. Thus, it's not overly suprising. YouTube music will also retain most of Google Play Music's features as well.
  • Google I/O had a lot great stuff about Google Lens. Those features are rolling out now. Some of the abilities include copying text from the real world and pasting it on your device. It's still very much a work in progress. However, this latest string of updates adds some really cool functionality. Hit the link to learn more.
  • A study came out this week. It shows the most popular mobile payment apps by usage. Starbucks is the most popular with over 20 million users. Behind it comes Apple Pay with 19.7 million, Google Pay with 9.7 million, and Samsung Pay with 8.7 million. Starbucks is a bit of a surprise. However, its mobile app doesn't work in every store like the others do. That makes Apple Pay the actual champion of the segment for now.

Animal Super Squad is a new game by DoubleMoose. It's an adventure game with platformer and puzzle elements. You make your way through various worlds and defeat bad guys. That's basically it. It runs for $4.99 with additional in-app purchases or advertisements.

CamToPlan is a Google ARCore app. It came out a while back and we're finally getting around to it. The game lets you map out rooms in real life. You move your device around and tap to mark the various walls and doors. It then creates a 2D map of the room. It boasts a 2% error rate. Of course, good lighting and other variables matter as well. It's still very much an app in development. However, it's relatively inexpensive at $3.99 and it's an actual, functional use of ARCore technology.

Price: Freemium

Deploy and Destroy is a new FPS game. It features many elements from the Ash Versus the Evil Dead series. That includes The Chin himself. Players can choose between Ash or Kelly as playable characters. Additionally, the game features decent graphics, simple (if somewhat clunky) controls, and plenty of FPS mayhem. It's an early release. Thus, there are some bugs. Most people don't seem to mind so far, though. The game needs some improvements, but it's not bad for an early release title.

VPNhub

VPNhub

Price: Free / $11.99 per month / $74.99 per year

VPNhub is a new VPN by, believe it or not, Pornhub. Of course, porn is a popular spot for VPN users anyway so this might actually be a good idea. The app comes with a fairly decent free version as long as you remain on US servers. It also features a no logging policy, over 1,000 servers worldwide, and more. The pro version is a little expensive. However, it boasts higher speeds, no ads, and more. This might be a legitimate contender in this space. Good job, Pornhub.
