How to fix Huawei Mate 10 Pro with a black screen of death issue (easy steps)

The Huawei Mate 10 Pro packs impressive hardware and it actually did receive quite a lot of positive reviews from its users and tech enthusiasts alike. But just like any other smartphones, it's not free from problems and errors. Some of our readers that own this device contacted us about the Black Screen of Death (BSoD) issue wherein their phones reportedly turned off or were discovered to have blank or black screen and no longer respond.

In this post, I will walk you through in troubleshooting your Huawei Mate 10 Pro with BSoD. I will share with you the solution that we've been using to make your phone respond. How to fix Mate 10 Pro with Black Screen of Death issue?

The BSoD may always seem like a very serious hardware issue because the phone won't  be responding as usual and the screen is always black but in reality or, more often than not, it's just a minor problem with the firmware and you can fix it on your own without any help from a tech. With that being said, here's what I suggest you do about this problem if it happens to your Huawei Mate 10 Pro:

First solution: Forced Reboot

Most of the cases we've encountered were due to a firmware crash. Even if your phone has some impressive hardware specs, that's not actually a guarantee that you could no longer encounter this problem. The fact is that it's actually a very common issue and even the most expensive smartphones can still have this problem. But don't worry, the following procedure can fix it…

• Press and hold the volume up button and the power key at the same time for 10 seconds or more.

Your Mate 10 Pro should respond to it because it's hard-wired to simulate battery pull when those keys are pressed and held down together. It's what we call as the Forced Reboot and it's very effective it dealing with firmware related issues as well as system crashes. It will refresh your phone's memory and reloads all its apps, services and core functions. Therefore, if the problem was actually due to a firmware crash, then it should already be booting up by now.

On the other hand, if the phone is still unresponsive after doing the forced reboot procedure, then try this instead:

1. Press and hold the volume up button and don't let go of it.
2. Press and hold the power key while you're holding down the volume up button.
3. Keep both buttons held down together for 10 seconds or so.

If the device is still not responding after doing this procedure, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Charge phone and do the Forced Reboot

It's possible that the battery got completely drained. The thing about it is that the firmware could have crashed because some components and services may not have been shut down properly. While a firmware crash can be fixed by a forced reboot, your phone may still not turn on due to a drained battery. Here's what you need to do about this:

1. Plug the charger to a working wall outlet. Make sure you're using the original charger.
2. Using the original cable, connect your phone to its charger.
3. Regardless whether it shows it's charging or not, leave it connected to the charger for 10 minutes or so.
4. Now, press and hold the volume up button and don't let go of it.
5. Press and hold the power key while you're holding down the volume up button.
6. Keep both buttons held down together for 10 seconds or so.

Assuming that the problem is actually due to a crashed firmware with a drained battery, your phone should already be booting up by now but if it is not responding still after doing this, then it's time you brought it to the store or to the shop.
