Samsung Galaxy S8 Active detailed specs revealed ahead of official announcement

It’s been more than a year since the rugged version of the Galaxy S7 made its way to the US, and Samsung could soon launch its successor. Named Galaxy S8 Active, the durable smartphone has already been certified by the FCC and the Wi-Fi Alliance. Moreover, its images were leaked earlier this week, revealing a flat display and a 4,000 mAh battery. Now, detailed specifications of the smartphone have been revealed.

According to the images of presentation slides that appeared online, the Galaxy S8 Active features a 5.8-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display with 18.5: aspect ratio and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It runs Android 7.0, and comes equipped with a 4,000 mAh battery that’s compatible with fast wireless charging. It features a Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot. It weighs a hefty 208.09 grams and its dimensions are 152.15 x 74.93 x 9.91mm.

The phone is supposed to be quite durable, thanks to IP68 certification (for dust and water resistance) as well as MIL-STD-810G certification for resistance from shocks, drops, and extreme climatic conditions. The Galaxy S8 Active retains the camera specifications of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ with a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera that features dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus, OIS, f/1.7 aperture, and 4K video recording. The front-facing 8-megapixel camera also features autofocus, f/1.7 aperture, and QHD video recording.

Connectivity features of the Galaxy S8 Active include Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi, NFC, MST (for Samsung Pay), GPS, A-GPS, and GLONASS. The phone could be launched in two colours: Meteor Gray and Titanium Gold. It also features with a physical button for summoning Bixby, but we are not sure whether it could be remapped. Last year, the Galaxy S7 Active had an ‘Active Key’ that could be configured to open any installed app of user’s choice when they short press, long press, and double press it.

Thanks to a much larger battery, the Galaxy S8 Active should be able to last longer than the Galaxy S8 does with its 3,000 mAh battery. However, the smartphone is expected to be sold exclusively in the US through AT&T. What do you think about the Galaxy S8 Active? Let us know in the comments section below.
