Galaxy S8 Japan release confirmed for June

After unveiling the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ on March 29, Samsung released the new flagship in a handful of markets across the globe on April 21. Since then, the company has gradually been releasing its new device in additional markets. Earlier this week it finally launched the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in China.

Samsung has now confirmed that the Galaxy S8 Japan release is going to take place next month. The company will be looking to regain consumer confidence that it lost after the Galaxy Note 7 debacle. Japan is one of the best markets for Apple’s iPhone so Samsung’s new flagship is going to have a Herculean task on its hands if it wants to win over customers from the iPhone.

To get the word out about its new device, Samsung is going to conduct various promotional events throughout Japan for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. A precise release date has not yet been provided but apparently, the handsets will be released in the country by early June.

The Japanese market is dominated by the iPhone while Samsung only accounts for a tiny share of the market. The company only sold 300,000 smartphones in Japan in the first quarter of this year, accounting for just 3.8 percent of the market share.

It wasn’t always like this, though. Samsung accounted for as much as 14.8 percent of the market back in 2012 but its position in the Japanese market has weakened considerably since then.
